Leon Guerrero-Tenorio Administration Breaks Ground on Phase One of Ypao Road Reconstruction and Widening Project
Hagåtña, Guam – Governor Lou Leon Guerrero and Lieutenant Governor Josh Tenorio, together with the Department of Public Works, led a groundbreaking ceremony today for the first phase of the Ypao Road Reconstruction and Widening Project along Route 14B in Tamuning.
The $8.5 million project covers the length of roadway from the Seventh Day Adventist Clinic to the Hilton Guam Resort and Spa, or roughly 0.35 mile of road. Funding for the project is through the Federal Highway Administration under the U.S. Department of Administration. In addition to the reconstruction and widening of Route 14B, the project also includes adding bicycle lanes and curb gutters, new sidewalks, storm drainage system, retaining walls, and utility relocations.
“This project is another investment in the pipeline of progress for Guam,” said Governor Leon Guerrero. “In bad weather, heavy downpour, and especially late at night, this highway is a hazard to the entire community. As one of the narrowest and most traveled roads on our island, it is no longer sustainable for our 21st century prosperity. We thank the dedicated team at DPW for ensuring these road projects move forward for the safety and progress of all our people.”
“As an essential road connecting over 9,000 drivers to their hotels, condominiums, housing subdivisions, and commercial and retail establishments, this latest investment strengthens our road to recovery, improves upon our resiliency, and bolsters the foundation of our future,” said Lieutenant Governor Tenorio. “Our Administration stands committed to investing strategically in our local infrastructure and to building better streets for all the drivers and pedestrians of Guam.”
Project design is by E.M. Chen & Associate, Inc. with InfraTech International, LLC serving as the contractor. The project is expected to take one year to complete.
